The Disease by George Hamilton Review

I won this book as a Goodreads First Reads winner.  An amazing read that I thoroughly enjoyed, reading it cover to cover in one sitting! If you like mystery/ Suspense type books, I think you will love this book.  The Disease is well written, with characters that make you feel like you are reading a true story.  I really liked that Mr. Hamilton touched on how a mother and daughter can have their differences and the mother still love her daughter enough to risk her own life to protect her daughter.  I highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading more from this Author.

Dr. Ludwilla Toropov is a doctor who treats patients during a world wide outbreak of the deadly Philippine Haemorrhagic Fever.  Her Government has found a vaccine that, due to low production and a fire, is rationed out and doctors must follow a list of who gets the vaccine and when.  The death toll rises by staggering numbers while waiting for more vaccine, so Ludwilla’s daughter Olga, and her group of rebels want to get a vial of the vaccine and smuggle it out of the country in search of a country that will make a synthetic version and mass produce it to save more lives.

Fearing for her daughter’s safety, Ludwilla herself smuggles a vial to her American friend to see if they can mass produce it.  In doing so, she has placed herself and everyone she knows in danger.  Nothing is as it seems and someone close to them is betraying their trust.  Twists and turns abound in this book and will leave you guessing to the shocking end.
